Last week’s cakes
I’ve had quite a busy couple of week’s and have therefore been very slack with updating the site. I have two cakes to show you from last week. One was a very special cake made for my dear old nan’s 90th birthday and the other was 16 mini spongebob cakes for a three year old’s birthday.
So starting with Nan’s cake. We have always spoke of Nan being the “Queen Bee” of our family, with six children of her own plus grandchildren, great grandchildren and even her first great great grandchild on the way!! At family gatherings she will sit back and take it all in and appreciate the lovely big family she has created hence the name “Queen Bee”. I thought it would be perfect to create a cake around this theme and decided on a beehive shaped cake with the Queen Bee on top and all her little bees around the hive. I had initially planned to have this the traditional yellow beehive, bees etc however my Aunties informed me they were having a lilac, silver and black theme for her party. OK so now I was thinking of scratching the whole
beehive idea and thinking of going something totally different to fit in with their colour scheme until my mum suggested being a little creative, sticking with my theme and making small changes to fit in with the colour scheme. So, a lilac beehive it is!!! on a silver board with little silver and black bees. I decided to keep the Queen Bee yellow and black and gave her a silver crown and star wand. The actual beehive cake was made from three tiers of round mud cakes, Cherry Ripe mud, caramel mud and white chocolate mud. Each tier was separated with a thin board for ease of serving and allowing a choice of cake flavour for all guests. I was happy with the end result and hope that Nan liked it too! Happy Birthday Nan, Love you xxxxx
My next project for the weekend was 16 mini Spongebob Square Pants cakes. Someone had seen the Spongebob Cake I had made for my niece a few weeks earlier and had a nephew who was also Spongebob mad. She thought a few mini Spongebob cakes would be the perfect gift for this little three year old and his little friends. To make these, the cake was the easy part. A vanilla slab cake which I devided into 16 mini rectangles. The hard part was covering each of these little fellows with a thin layer of ganache then creating mini Spongebobs with coloured fondant. This little excercise took HOURS!!! but was well worth the effort! They looked a treat all set out on the board, the client was happy and hopefully her little nephew was too!
Spongebob Square Pants Cake
Last weekend my niece celebrated her 13th Birthday and her most favourite thing in the world is Spongebob Square Pants. She absolutely adores him! With a Spongebob themed birthday party, there was no question about what cake she wanted. I used a 28cm rectangle tin and baked a milk chocolate mud cake. I filled the cake with a chocolate mousse and strawberry oreo filling (a bit of an experiment which paid off) I cut out some sponge holes and covered the entire cake with milk chocolate ganache. The cake was then covered in coloured fondant to look like Spongebob. The entire cake was edible including his legs and arms. My niece was very happy with her cake as where her friends! Hope you had a great party Alysia xx
Jake’s 6th Birthday
Today is my little man’s 6th birthday. I gave him the option of any cake he wanted. This decision proved quite a difficult task, with the choice changing with each suggestion made. He finally settled on a Ben 10 cake. His choice of flavour was vanilla (quite a change from the usual mudcake). As he chose a plainer type cake, I suggested adding a filling. Jake is a huge fan of Oreo’s, so we went with Cookies and Cream filling. Using my awesome Agbay cake leveller, I levelled the 20cm round cake then made a nice cut through the centre. This is actually the first time I have filled a cake so it was a bit of an experiment for me. I filled the centre with the freshly made Cookies and Cream filling (next time, I will add double the amount of filling I think). I covered the entire cake with a thin layer of vanilla buttercream and then decorated with coloured fondant to create a Ben 10 Omnitrix. Graymatter and all other decorations were hand made with fondant. Jake loved his cake. Happy 6th Birthday Dude!! xxx
Cindy’s Baby Shower Cupcakes
This week I made cupcakes for a baby shower. The glowing mum to be is expecting a baby boy and wanted a mixture of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with various shades of blue icing. The colour theme of the day was shades of blue with a little silver and white. We therefore chose to go with two blue shades and a silver in cupcake cases. The mum to be was not keen on the traditional baby decorations and preferred the cakes be decorated with silver and white cashous. The end result were some great little baby boy cupcakes. Hope your day was perfect Cindy and can’t wait to meet the little fella when he arrives! x
Jayson’s 15th Birthday Cake
I’m a bit behind with keeping the website up to date! Last week was Jayson’s 15th Birthday and I decided to give the topsy turvey cake a go. Jayson is a Titan’s supporter and loves his footy so combining his love of footy and my urge to try out the topsy turvey cake, we came up with a pretty cool cake.
I made a smaller version of the cake using square cakes. I started with two 20cm square caramel mud cakes (Jayson’s favourite!!) and cut to get four tiers in descending sizes. This cake is covered in a vanilla buttercream, however I feel it would look a lot better covered in ganache and fondant! I then used coloured fondant (in Titan’s colours of course!) to decorate each tier with a different pattern. The top tier was topped with a hand modelled Titan’s football!
Jayson was happy with his cake and it went down well with the family also. Hope you had a great day Jays!! xx
A Weekend of Cakes!!!
This weekend was a very busy one! A caramel mud Eeyore cake made for my sister’s birthday, a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and tractor topper for twins Matthew & Thomas, Rose cupcakes for a female birthday, vanilla lady bug cupcakes and coffee and walnut cupcakes too! A weekend packed with cooking and decorating! Loved it!! I hope everyone enjoyed their birthday’s and most importantly their cakes!! Happy Birthday!!

Christmas Cupcakes
| It’s Christmas time and the Christmas cards with candy cane gifts started rolling in from all the little ones at pre-school. A great little gift for the little ones. My son decided he would like to give every child in his pre-school class a cupcake for Christmas. He obviously shares his mother’s love of cakes |
